Welcome to sheepdogs Garden Train place......
sheepdog being my old hippie nickname... :)

A friend suggested I take a look at Garden Trains in March of 2002.....
It's all his fault I'm hooked!!!!

So, after checking out a model train show and visiting a local Garden layout, Ms. sheepdog and I decided to jump in with both feet.... First we selected a site.

Then I purchased some RR-Track layout software (I do recommend it) and started drawing in track. We decided on a late 1900's Old West theme because we like the old steam engines plus the old buildings and shacks would be fun and easy to model.
Yup, we wanted the pond, the stream, a tunnel, bridges.... the whole nine yards... :)

And then I started to do a little thinking about how much digging and hauling that was going to be....
The project was then broken into at least 3 phases...
:)

Phase One
Each square is 1' by 1' and no matter what Ms. sheep says, the pond is not in phase one!

Ground breaking was April 5, 2002. Left, the end of day one....

Right Day 2
Moan!...

Left - Day 3, end of the weekend.
The chipped limestone has been placed 6" deep for all track locations

Right - Day 8, The track is going down, turnouts located and PVC is being run to contain and protect the wiring.
Day 9, Track laying continues... I found out that the natural stone edging looked great but because they varied so much in width, I had to become a stone mason and chip the rear edges so the track could follow the contour... :(
